This week, Holosun released the AEMS PRO X2 and AEMS CORE X2 reflex sights. These optics update the AEMS platform with enhanced optical performance and mounting options. Both models have a 1.1 x 0.87-inch window, ±50 MOA travel range, and 0.5 MOA adjustments for windage and elevation. They run on a CR2032 battery with up to 50,000 hours of runtime and include Shake Awake technology that recalls the last setting.[1]
The AEMS CORE X2 is the entry-level model, while the AEMS PRO X2 includes advanced features for rigorous use. These sights fit Picatinny rails and work with existing AEMS mounts. The X2 series cuts parallax by 50% via an improved optical system and comes with a new four-post, lower 1/3 co-witness mount.[2]
AEMS CORE X2 Specifications and Features
The AEMS CORE X2 dimensions are 2.48 x 1.54 x 2.63 inches, with a weight of 9.8 ounces. It uses 7075 T6 aluminum housing with an MAO finish and has an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. It operates from -30°C to 60°C and stores from -40°C to 70°C. The sight handles 1000G vibration.[3]
The reticle options include a 2 MOA dot in red, green, or gold. It has 10 daylight and 2 night vision brightness settings. The optic uses multilayer reflective glass, is parallax-free, and offers unlimited eye relief at 1x magnification.[4]
Shake Awake turns off the LED after 10 minutes to 12 hours of inactivity and reactivates on movement. The package includes the sight, a 1.63-inch mount, multi-tool, wrench, and cleaning cloth.[1]
MSRP is $352.93 for the red dot, $370.58 for green and gold. The skeletonized riser mounts to Picatinny rails, suitable for rifles and carbines. Compared to the original AEMS, the CORE X2 boosts accuracy with lower parallax and the new mount. It lacks solar power but delivers consistent battery operation.[5]
AEMS PRO X2 Specifications and Features
The AEMS PRO X2 measures 2.2 x 1.76 x 2.52 inches and weighs 10.4 ounces. It shares the 7075-T6 aluminum housing and MAO finish but upgrades to IPX8 waterproofing. Environmental tolerances match the CORE X2, including 1000G vibration resistance.[2]
It features the Multi Reticle System, which includes a 2 MOA dot, a 65 MOA circle, or both, in red at 650nm. Brightness settings include eight (8) daylight and four (4) night vision levels. Solar Failsafe provides backup power, with an auto-adjusting reticle brightness in auto mode.[3]
A forward light sensor enhances auto mode in changing light conditions. An integrated flip-down lens cover has an anti-reflection device. It features Shake Awake and multilayer glass, offering 50% reduced parallax distortion and unlimited eye relief.[1]
The package includes the optic, a 1.63-inch mount, anti-reflective and clear lens inserts, a multi-tool, a wrench, and a cleaning cloth. MSRP is $470.58. The PRO X2 builds upon the CORE X2 with a multi-reticle, solar support, and lens protection for enhanced adaptability.[4]
In comparison to prior AEMS versions, the PRO X2 reduces parallax by 50%, enhances dot contrast in varying light conditions, and features an anti-reflective coating and an updated mount.[2]
Key Differences and Competitor Context
The CORE X2 and PRO X2 share battery life, adjustments, and Shake Awake features, but differ in reticles, brightness, waterproofing, and extras. The CORE X2's single 2 MOA dot appeals to users seeking simplicity and affordability, with color choices for better visibility. The PRO X2's MRS and solar backup suit tactical and competitive needs.[5]
Weights are similar, with PRO at 10.4 ounces versus CORE at 9.8 ounces. Dimensions differ slightly, with the CORE being taller at 2.63 inches compared to the PRO's 2.52 inches.[3]
In comparison to competitors like the Trijicon RMR or Aimpoint Micro, the AEMS X2 features enclosed emitters for enhanced environmental protection, extended battery life, and shake awake activation at a lower price point. The parallax reduction closes the gap to higher-end optics.[1]
IP67/IPX8 ratings ensure performance in rain, outperforming open sights that fog. The new mount enables stable lower 1/3 co-witness with standard AR-pattern irons.[4]
These enhancements and updates make the X2 series a notable evolution from the original AEMS, retaining the excellent optical quality while introducing some quality of life improvements. Holosun fans will like the mount compatibility and parallax improvements.[2]
Applications and Availability
Both sights serve rifle and carbine roles, from defense to training. The CORE X2 suits basic setups, while the PRO X2 better accommodates duty or match requirements with additional reticle options and enhanced solar redundancy.[5]
You should find these on the shelves at your local gun store soon, at street prices a bit lower than MSRP.
