Major Data Breach Affects The Post Millennial: What You Need to Know

Conservative Canadian news outlet The Post Millennial, part of the Human Events Media Group, suffered a data breach earlier this month that affected over 26 million individuals. This breach also targeted the American 'Human Events' platform, both of which were victims of site defacements and false messages purportedly from editor Andy Ngo.

The hackers reportedly accessed and stole various sensitive data, including mailing lists, subscriber details, and personal information of the platform's writers and editors. This exposed data encompasses full names, email addresses, usernames, account passwords, IP addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, and genders, posing serious privacy and security threats to those involved.

Cybersecurity expert Troy Hunt added the compromised data to the Have I Been Pwned (HIBP) notification service following the breach. Although it remains unconfirmed if the data originated directly from Human Events or The Post Millennial, the action was taken to alert potentially affected users.

The breach involved publishing three separate data sets, including detailed personal information of hundreds of the site’s personnel and tens of thousands of subscribers. Additionally, email addresses from thousands of mailing lists, potentially not directly managed by The Post Millennial, were disclosed.

As of now, The Post Millennial has yet to release a public statement about the breach. Meanwhile, experts like Troy Hunt advise subscribers of the affected news outlets to reset passwords and stay vigilant against any suspicious communications via email, calls, or SMS.
